The staff of ConventionSouth wishes to offer our sympathy and concern for all of the people in Texas suffering the effects of Hurricane Harvey and the subsequent flooding that continues to impact the area. Our hearts go out to all those experiencing loss, shock, displacement and uncertainty.
We are pleased and proud to learn that the convention and meetings industry is stepping up during this natural disaster to help those in dire need. In addition to two of the state’s largest convention centers ¾the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston and the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Center in Dallas ¾being turned into shelters for the thousands of people who were displaced, many smaller communities, such as Victoria, Seguin, New Braunfels, San Marcos, Laredo and The Woodlands have opened event centers, high schools, churches and other facilities to house those who have had to evacuate. The cities of Austin and San Antonio are also offering shelter and pitching in as thousands seek refuge.
We know that Texans are tough, resilient people and that this region will recover, rebuild and rebound in the near future! In the meantime, if there is any way ConventionSouth can be of help to folks in the meetings and events business, please let us know.
