Describe your job.

For the past 25 years, I have worked closely with our clients to plan events that serve a number of different purposes—whether a small committee meeting of 10 or a convention for 1,000 and everything in between.

What made you choose the meetings and events industry?

In my role as a meeting planner, the opportunity found me, not the other way around. As the owner of an association management company, I had to become a meeting planner quickly.

How do you keep up with industry trends, changes, and cutting-edge developments?

Among my favorite resources are the many different Facebook groups of my peers, who love to provide support and solutions. It was the first place I turned to when conferences started to cancel as a result of COVID-19. Not only did I find good advice, but I also found lots of support.

Share an anecdote about a meeting or event that did not go as planned and how you handled it.

Just as we thought we were going to meet face to face, one of our conferences again had to be canceled due to a tornado wreaking havoc on our location. I was extremely proud of my team, as they turned a 350-person, four-day meeting into a highly successful virtual event in 48 hours! We had some of the highest session-attendance numbers in the history of the organization. Everyone had already planned to be out of the office, so it was much easier for them to dedicate the time to attend and not worry about other distractions.

What is the best part of your job?

As we are returning to the face-to-face world, I’m excited to again showcase the talents of my team and all they bring to an event. All the special touches, the hugs, the ribbons, the silly traditions because those are the things attendees remember. Those are the reasons they keep coming back.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Photography—that is my stress relief.
