Downtown Austin is transforming before our eyes. At the center of it all, the Austin Convention Center leads a $1.6 billion reinvention that will change how the world gathers, celebrates, and connects.
This project doesn’t simply update an aging facility—it is a complete teardown and rebuild that reimagines the entire experience of conventions and events. With bold architecture, advanced technology, and a commitment to sustainability, the new center will embody Austin’s spirit of creativity and innovation while setting a new global standard for the industry.
The Austin Convention Center closed its doors in April 2025 to make way for this once-in-a-generation rebuild. Crews are reconstructing the facility from the ground up, infusing every detail with purpose and possibility. When the center reopens in Spring 2029, visitors will step into one of the most dynamic, sustainable, and innovative venues on the planet—a space designed not only to host events but also to inspire them.
The world’s most sustainable convention center
This project doesn’t renovate—it reinvents. LMN Architects and Page designed a bold new facility that leaps from 365,000 to 620,000 square feet of rentable space, unleashing more room, more flexibility, and more energy than ever before.
Every detail serves a purpose: Cutting-edge technology powers seamless events, advanced building systems enhance performance, and bold public art sparks inspiration. Together, these elements create a new global benchmark for modern meetings and unforgettable experiences.
The vision goes even further. The Austin Convention Center aims to become the world’s first zero-carbon convention center—a groundbreaking achievement that positions Austin as an international leader in sustainable urban development and green meeting innovation.
A community-driven landmark
The new Austin Convention Center welcomes both visitors and locals with vibrant plazas, outdoor terraces available to clients overlooking the skyline, and seamless indoor-outdoor spaces that invite everyone to gather, connect, and explore.
Downtown gains new energy with pedestrian-friendly walkways, expanded transit access, and the reopening of Third Street, reconnecting the neighborhood.
Austin’s artistic spirit takes center stage with a record-breaking $17.7 million investment in public art—immersive installations, interactive exhibits, and artist-driven spaces transform the venue into a cultural landmark.
