Calvert County is rich in history and unique attractions, featuring Maryland’s oldest operating lighthouse, Cove Point Lighthouse, and trails for wine, ale, antiques, and even barn quilts. Bayside History Museum in North Beach has exhibits highlighting local history and culture and can also accommodate private events of up to 100 people. Hotels with event space include the 100-room Hilton Garden Inn Solomons, which offers 3,352 square feet of event space and accommodates up to 200 people for receptions in its largest space. SpringHill Suites Prince Frederick has 87 guest rooms and 2,000 square feet of event space across two rooms for small events. Family-owned and operated Rod N’ Reel Resort in Chesapeake Beach offers more than 4,000 square feet of event space, four restaurants, a marina, and other amenities. The resort is in the last of a three-phase renovation scheduled for completion this year. The project will create flexible new banquet space for up to 500 guests, additional rooftop function space, and more guest rooms.
Charles County features historic Port Tobacco Village, which was settled in the 17th century and was a major international seaport before the American Revolution. The village has several historic buildings available for tours and group events. LaPlata, the county seat, features a charming downtown with eclectic shops and antique stores. Local hotels with event space include Holiday Inn Express LaPlata, which accommodates up to 200 people. For smaller groups, planners might consider Courtyard by Marriott Waldorf, Hampton Inn Waldorf, and other national brands in the area.
Established in 1637, St. Mary’s County is home to Maryland’s first settlement, historic St. Mary’s City, which was established as the first capital of the Maryland Colony. The city has four museums, a reconstructed colonial town, and a living history center. St. Mary’s City has indoor/outdoor space available for private events, including the reconstructed State House of 1676, which accommodates 200 people.
