DULUTH, Ga. – The Gas South Convention Center in Gwinnett County, Ga., recently reopened after renovations that began in February 2020.
Gas South District pulled back the curtains to unveil the newly expanded and renovated Convention Center earlier this month. The state-of-the-art facility now offers 90,000 square feet of exhibit hall space, a 21,600 square-foot ballroom, 24 meeting rooms, and outdoor gathering areas with landscaping enhancements.
Stan Hall, CEO of Gas South District says, “With the completion of this project, the construction of the Westin hotel, and the potential for a mixed-use development on our campus, Gas South District will be a hub for not only the community but for guests bringing their meetings and events to Gwinnett County as well.”
The Gas South District master plan encompasses the expansion of the Convention Center space and the addition of an entertainment district and luxury hotel to the campus. Phase one of the project, which included the addition of 50,000 square feet of exhibit hall space, a new junior ballroom, and an outdoor plaza, was finished in December 2021. The work then shifted to the second phase which was a complete renovation of the existing facility that also incorporated the addition of a new food hall and upgraded technology. Completion of the nearby 348-room Westin Atlanta Gwinnett is expected in 2024.
“The additional square footage and upscale design of Gas South Convention Center create new opportunities to attract additional trade show and convention business to Gwinnett County,” says Monte Ortel, general manager of Gas South District. “We are looking forward to welcoming guests into our facility that was designed to integrate nature, creativity, and a sense of collaboration throughout the space.”
The campus also includes Gas South Theater and Gas South Arena, the latter which will be marking 20 years of operation later this month.
