The Hampton Convention and Visitors Bureau is looking to create a new identity for the area around the city’s convention center, Hampton Roads Convention Center.

HAMPTON, Va. – Tourism leaders in Hampton, Va., are looking to remarket the area around the city’s convention center.

As reported by local website 13NewsNow.com, the Hampton Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) is looking to use a $320,000 American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant to create a more defined identity for the Hampton Roads Convention Center, Hampton Coliseum, and Hampton Aquaplex.

A study, commissioned by the CVB, indicated that stakeholders are looking for entertainment, hotels, and restaurant options. With this in mind, the hope is to attract more development to the area, but creating a new name is the first step.

Hampton CVB director Mary Fugere says while all three venues are well established, they do not have common branding but are instead part of a larger business district known as Coliseum Central, the article states.

According to the article, some potential names discussed have included Hampton Crossing, Constellation Point, and Coliseum Park.

Fugere says they want to work with the city council and branding contractors to find the right name for the space, noting it isn’t something that should be rushed.
