Calling itself “Where Almost Heaven Begins,” Jefferson County—which includes Charles Town, Harpers Ferry, and Shepherdstown—has many historic sites and homes with ties to George Washington and his family; in addition, it also is home to historic Storer College, one of the first institutions of higher learning for African-Americans in the former Confederacy. The county is convenient to the Washington D.C. metro area and has four distinct conference and meeting venues, according to Jefferson County CVB.
Event venues include the Bavarian Inn & Brewing Co., an 11-acre resort overlooking the Potomac River and featuring 72 guest rooms, 7,500 square feet of indoor event space for 150 guests, and outdoor spaces; Clarion Inn, with 100 guest rooms and 10,000 square feet of function space, is adjacent to River Riders Family Adventure Resort, with whitewater rafting, ziplining, and other outdoor adventures for teambuilding; Clarion Hotel & Conference Center, with 168 guest rooms and 6,000 square feet of meeting space; and Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races, with event space for 300 people and 152 guest rooms at The Inn at Charles Town.
At Shepherd University, the historic 19th-century home Popodicon has indoor event space for 60 guests and lawn reception areas for 500.
