TAMPA, Fla. – Le Méridien Tampa, The Courthouse, a registered historic building built in 1902, unveiled an extensive renovation on Sept. 22.

The redesign was led by Saguez & Dash, and hotel officials say they “strategically preserved the hotel’s historical charm while infusing it with a fresh identity and a bright, modern aesthetic.”

“This renovation has truly been a remarkable journey,” says Andrew Spicknall, general manager at Le Méridien Tampa, The Courthouse. “I’m filled with excitement and pride as I witness Le Méridien Tampa emerge from this meticulous process, and I eagerly anticipate the hotel’s continued success.”

The renovation has completely transformed all 130 guest rooms, introducing new carpets, drapery, mattresses, paint and wallpaper, and 55-inch flat-screen televisions. The lobby area now boasts a modern feel with updated paint and furnishings, while the 24-hour fitness center is now equipped with state-of-the-art Peloton bikes and fitness equipment.

For event planners, the 2,201-square-foot Courthouse Ballroom has undergone a full transformation. New carpeting, paint, drapes, and the preservation of the original hand-painted ceilings make it suitable for weddings or special occasions. All meeting spaces have also been revitalized with new carpeting and paint.

Le Méridien Tampa, The Courthouse also has redesigned onsite dining options, including Sal Rosa Island Kitchen + Bar, a Latin-Caribbean restaurant. Located on the second floor, the island-inspired restaurant presents updated flooring, seating, paint schemes, and an expanded lounge space and bar. Guests can enjoy breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, and Caribbean-themed craft cocktails, and Sal Rosa will also have capabilities for private gatherings and events. Alson on the second floor, the renovation introduced Cafe + Scoops—a grab-and-go market featuring specialty coffees, house-made gelato, pastries, and desserts.

“We wanted to infuse Tampa’s lively aesthetic with the essence of the Le Méridien brand into the renovation of the hotel and restaurant,” says David Ashen, president of Saguez & Dash. “The building is such a landmark in the city, it was a somewhat daunting challenge, but ended up being an incredibly-enjoyable process. It was a pleasure working with the Le Méridien Tampa, The Courthouse team, and we look forward to the unveiling of the team’s hard work.”

Before its rebirth as a hotel in 2014, the building served various roles, including as a United States post office, a courthouse, and a customs house. The hotel has carefully preserved some of its original fixtures and assets. Historical and preserved pieces guests can see include the Golden Elevator, the judge bench and jury bench, the witness stand, original crown molding, a cashier window, and a golden eagle fixture.
