SOUTHAVEN, Miss. – A seven-story hotel with resort-style amenities is planned near the Landers Center in Desoto County, Miss.
As reported by commercialappeal.com, the proposed hotel, under the Embassy Suites by Hilton brand, includes a “Vegas-style pool,” lazy river, and a high-end restaurant. In an interview with the website, DeSoto County Mayor Darren Musselwhite said it will be a first for the local area.
The hotel is part of a planned expansion of the Landers Center, with the article stating it will be the first convention center in Mississippi with a hotel in it.
Whitney Choat-Cook, Southaven’s city planning director said in the article the goal of the hotel, along with the expansion, is looking to bring in regional- and national-level conferences.
It is reported the hotel will have 240 guest rooms and will be attached to the Landers Center via a walkway. It is expected construction on both the hotel and the convention center expansion will begin later this year, with an estimated opening date in 2025.
Back in early 2021, local officials approved $35 million for expanding the Landers Center, which is owned by the DeSoto County Convention and Visitors Bureau, according to the article. Musselwhite says this will bring Southaven and DeSoto County to a “new economic plateau.”
The center contains two meeting rooms and one board room, separate from the 17,000-square-foot convention hall. The board room consists of a conference table capable of seating up to 12 people.
