A recent article from Reuters indicates Choice Hotels International has an interest in acquiring Wyndham Hotels & Resorts to create a U.S. budget hotel giant.
The report states discussions between the two companies are at an early stage. The news was first broken by The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday, May 23.
Wyndham officials responded to Reuters via an emailed statement, noting “we don’t comment on rumors,” while also stating they are “focused on business as usual.”
Both companies are currently valued at around $6 billion. Wyndham includes brands such as Days Inn and Travelodge, operating and franchising a portfolio of 24 brands. Choice Hotels, with a portfolio including Econo Lodge, Quality Inn, and Clarion, franchises more than 7,000 hotels.
Last summer, Choice Hotels acquired Radisson Hotels Americas, adding another 67,000 hotel rooms to its offerings.
