Hill Country

Positioned between Austin and San Antonio, San Marcos blends small-town charm with a big personality, according to Denise Pardo, destination services manager for Visit San Marcos. “Our city’s vibrant mix of culture, creativity, and Hill Country hospitality makes it a standout destination for meetings and events, and San Marcos’ energy shines through its live-music scene, flavorful local restaurants, and thriving arts community. Around every corner, there are murals both mini and massive, markets filled with local makers, and a playful spirit that celebrates our creative soul.”
The city’s largest event space, Embassy Suites by Hilton San Marcos Hotel Conference Center, has completed a major renovation. “This includes reimagined guest suites, elevated public spaces, and a conference center designed to impress,” Pardo says. “The design was inspired by the natural flow of the San Marcos River and features soothing organic tones, warm copper accents, and a polished, welcoming atmosphere.” The hotel offers 283 suites and a 78,800-square-foot conference center with a maximum theater-seating capacity of 3,000 guests. There are approximately 2,400 guest rooms in the city.
Just north of downtown is Texas State University. “The campus is beautiful—and very hilly,” Pardo says. “The Old Main Building, the original building on campus—still used for classes—is a prominent feature on a hill overlooking downtown.” Overlooking the 10,000-seat Strahan Arena, the University Events Center can accommodate 100 guests. Also on campus is the Wittliff Collection, a renowned research center, archive, and museum focusing on the cultural heritage of Texas, the Southwest, and Mexico. Taylor Sheridan, the multi-award-winning creator, writer, and producer of Yellowstone and other TV projects, has designated the Wittliff Collection as the home of his creative archive.
