FORT WORTH, Texas — Work has begun to restore the Sandman Signature Hotel in Fort Worth after an explosion rocked the building in January.
The explosion took place at the downtown property on Jan. 8, injuring 21 people in the process.
As reported by the Fort Worth Report, a remodeling permit for “selective demo for shoring” the hotel was filed in late January to install a temporary support beam in the building.
In the article, Simon Chao, a civil engineering professor at the University of Texas said because the permit is for a “selective demo” it means some of the damage to the building is repairable.
In a news release, Northland Properties, owner of the hotel, says it is “dedicated to restoring the hotel’s historic downtown location and that there’s no indication that the integrity of the building is compromised.” However, the company also believes reopening is “unlikely to happen in the coming months.”
The article states Northland Properties is working on helping employees to find alternative employment.
