COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M University will begin offering three hospitality-related degrees later this summer.

The three undergraduate degree tracks—hospitality, hotel management, and tourism management—will be offered through the school’s new Department of Hospitality, Hotel Management and Tourism. Certificates currently provided by the department include professional event management, recreation and park management, hospitality management, and tourism management, along with Master’s and Doctoral degrees.

According to an article from Hotel Management Online, the changes are being made to cater to the shifting demands of the hospitality and resort industry. Texas A&M University president M. Katherine Banks says the objective is to provide leadership skills for future hospitality, hotel management, and tourism workers.

Brian King, who will oversee the revamped department, says the move will “open more doors for our faculty and students to benefit the hospitality industry locally, statewide, and nationally.”

According to the article, the department will officially launch on August 15. It will have its hub in the Aplin Center, a planned experiential learning lab for hospitality, retail studies, and food product development students. The center will set to open this fall.
