LAKE CHARLES, La.—Two new developments—a Hilton Garden Inn and a new downtown amphitheater—are underway in Lake Charles, La.

The Hilton Garden Inn will be built adjacent to Lake Charles Event Center as the event center’s first onsite hotel. The hotel will offer 154 guest rooms, a restaurant, a bar, a second-story pool, and an additional 19,000 square feet of meeting space. Plans for a 3,500-capacity amphitheater are also moving forward. Construction of the hotel and amphitheater is expected to begin in late 2025, with completion set for early 2027.

Two other additions to the area include Port Wonder, a 25,000-square-foot lakefront development estimated at more than $30 million, and Crying Eagle Brewing Lakefront, featuring 12,000 square feet of dining and entertainment space and estimated at $12 million.

Expected to open in early 2025, the family-friendly Port Wonder attraction will house the Children’s Museum of Southwest Louisiana and the Louisiana Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries Nature and Science Center. These interactive exhibits will engage all ages with hands-on learning.

The Crying Eagle Brewing Lakefront is set to open in spring 2025 and will include a seafood-inspired restaurant, a lager-focused microbrewery, and waterfront views from both the indoor and outdoor areas.

  1. After moving back to Lake Charles in 2023 (after living in Houston, TX, for 6 years), we’re excited to see Lake Charles moving forward with improvements/additions to the Lake area! Keep up the good work!!
