With a convenient location, just an hour from the Washington D.C. metro area, Martinsburg and Berkeley County offer planners many unique opportunities, says Mark Jordan, executive director of Visit Martinsburg. “Throughout the county, we have multiple beautiful examples of historically preserved homes and estates, and the historic Martinsburg Roundhouse, which dates from the 1840s, can easily accommodate 500 people for events,” he says. “It has been refurbished and maintained in its original design and is a blank slate waiting to be utilized.”
The area is popular with geocaching, which can make for unique teambuilding and unforgettable adventure for all experience levels, he adds.
The region’s history also offers excursion options. “It is easy to make a group tour of history here, with sites like Morgan Cabin, the General Adam Stephen House, and The George Washington Heritage Trail. There is an ample number of Civil War sites, including Berkeley County Museum, located in the home of famed Confederate spy Belle Boyd.”
The county has approximately 1,426 hotel rooms and 310 other guest lodging options.
Hotels with event space include the 111-room Hilton Garden Inn, with a 5,000-square-foot ballroom to accommodate 300 in theater-style seating or 220 for banquets; and the 120-room Holiday Inn, with a 3,872-square-foot ballroom seating 400 theater style or 484 for a reception, plus six additional smaller meeting rooms.
