Once home to the industrial Washington Navy Yard, this riverside area just south of the U.S. Capitol is where Washingtonians come to meet and play. Capitol Riverfront has abundant green space, restaurants, entertainment, and sports, including Nationals Park—home of Major League Baseball’s Washington Nationals baseball team. Nationals Park is also the events hub for Capitol Riverfront’s Connected Campus component. The ballpark venue offers 300,000 square feet of unique indoor and outdoor spaces ideal for groups of 40-40,000 guests. Components include the 18,886-square-foot FIS Champions Club, which has built-in bars, floor-to-ceiling windows, and spectacular views of the field and the Anacostia River, and accommodates 1,200 for receptions. A conference center offers five flexible areas, which can easily be configured for meetings and breakouts. Outdoor venue options include the warning track and dugout area, which can host 1,500 for receptions and 500 for banquets.
Area hotels with event venues include the 225-room Thompson Washington DC, with more than 7,000 square feet of event space, including a wine room and rooftop bar for up to 200 guests. The 152-room Cambria Hotel Washington DC Navy Yard Riverfront features 2,574 square feet of flexible meeting space, including a rooftop terrace seating 379 theater style and 300 for banquets. Capital Turnaround, located in an imposing stone-and-brick Romanesque Revival building and once the terminus of D.C.’s first streetcar line, features an open floor plan and a concert hall with state-of-the-art LED screens and seating for 1,000 people.
Capitol Riverfront will soon get a new Placemakr apartment-hotel property catering to short- and long-term stays, business travelers, and groups. Capitol Riverfront’s Yards waterfront park attraction is adding 3.4 million square feet of new developments, including offices, dining, retail, and 33,000 square feet of new waterfront for visitors to enjoy—making it the D.C. area’s largest waterfront development. This year, a new 166-room Moxy Hotel Southwest will open on Capitol Riverfront between Nationals Park and Audi Field; the mixed-use property will include residential components, rooftop views, and a farmer’s market.
