DMOs introduce partnership to promote meetings in Maryland

The heart of Maryland is coming together to showcase their areas as premier groups and meetings destinations. The new initiative, Meet in Maryland, is a collaborative approach to initiate interest in Maryland as a meetings destination. Meet in Maryland encompasses venues in Baltimore, Bethesda, BWI Airport, College Park, Columbia, Gaithersburg, National Harbor, Rockville, Silver Spring, and beyond to promote meetings and events in the greater capital region.

The Boca Raton to debut transformed Beach Club

Boca Raton, Fla.—The Boca Raton announced the $120 million investment in the redesign of its Beach Club earlier this year, and reservations are now open. In addition to new restaurants, a fitness facility, and a cocktail lounge and café, the oceanside event spaces and all guest rooms and suites have been completely revamped. The grand reveal is set for January 2, 2025.

Hotelier and philanthropist Harris Rosen dies at 85

Harris Rosen, hotelier and philanthropist, passed away on November 25, 2024, at the age of 85. He was surrounded by family. Harris Rosen was founder, president, and COO of Rosen Hotels & Resorts—a band of seven hotel properties that services greater Orlando and central Florida.

Downtown San Antonio Hyatt hotels hire Michael Balyeat as director of sales and marketing

Grand Hyatt San Antonio River Walk and Hyatt Regency San Antonio Riverwalk announced Michael Balyeat as director of sales and marketing. Balyeat previously worked with the downtown San Antonio hotels, from 2012 to 2014. In his return, he will oversee all sales and marketing programs for the properties and implement strategies to increase brand awareness. 

BJCC awards $3.9 million bid for piazza renovation

The Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC) board awarded SDAC a $3.9 million contract to rebuild the central outdoor space connecting Legacy Arena to the BJCC’s concert hall, theater, and exhibit halls.  

Arlo Washington DC hotel opens in historic apartment building

Independent hotel brand Arlo Hotels officially opens Arlo Washington DC, a 12-story lifestyle hotel, on November 18. The building is a conversion of the 1888 Harrison Apartments, the district’s oldest surviving apartment located in the heart of downtown D.C., plus the 12-story addition.
