Garrett College Performing Arts Center in McHenry features a 382-seat theater and a 2,000-square-foot multipurpose, subdividable conference center. The year-round 169-room Wisp Resort boasts more than 30,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor event space; its largest space can accommodate up to 1,540 theater style and more than 780 for receptions. Guests of the resort can enjoy an array of group activities, including skiing and snowboarding, whitewater rafting, canopy tours, and golfing on the 70-par golf course. Located on Deep Creek Lake, the Lodges at Sunset Village accommodates approximately 160 overnight guests and features outdoor, lakefront, and mountainside event areas for up to 500 people. The cozy bed-and-breakfast-style Lake Point Inn Hotel & Suites is an option for overflow guest accommodations. According to Lane, a new Home2 Suites by Hilton McHenry Deep Creek Lake is scheduled to open in early spring 2026.
For local flavor, Blackthorne Cellars farm winery in Oakland serves premium wines made from Maryland grapes. Blackthorne’s friendly staff can also advise on tastings and food pairings. The winery also has cheese, meats, spreads, bread, and crackers available for purchase.
