Huntington is “redefining travel,” says Anna Adkins, director of sales and marketing for Visit Huntington. “Here in ‘H-Town,’ you will find Appalachian craftsmanship, Southern hospitality, unique flavor, and so much more. We are home to Marshall University, which is a wonderful community partner and has a campus in downtown; we have an incredible local dining scene, including the famous Hillbilly Hotdogs, home to the world’s largest hot dog; and we welcome everyone to celebrate Appalachian culture and history at Heritage Farm, West Virginia’s only Smithsonian affiliate,” she says.
Heritage Farm offers custom teambuilding opportunities and features the Barn Retreat Center, an original 1800s dairy barn remodeled with modern amenities, along with a full kitchen, seven meeting rooms, and other indoor and outdoor event spaces.
To take advantage of its many hot dog joints, Adkins says the CVB introduced the Huntington Hot Dog Trail. “Make a purchase at five of the nine participating restaurants and get a pin, or complete the whole trail for a fun t-shirt,” According to Adkins, other fun group excursion options include Camden Park, West Virginia’s only amusement park and one of the oldest in the country, with 30 rides and attractions for all ages. Just 30 minutes from downtown, Beech Fork State Park has hiking trails and many options to get on the water with pontoon boats, kayaks, and paddleboards.
The area has more than 1,400 guest rooms. DoubleTree by Hilton Downtown has 187 guest rooms and 20,000 square feet of event space; Delta Hotels by Marriott Huntington Downtown has 135 guest rooms and is across from the Mountain Health Arena and Convention Center, which features a new outdoor plaza, a 9,000-seat arena, and 15,000 square feet of meeting and conference space. Additional event space is available at Memorial Student Center at Marshall University, with 15 meeting rooms to host 600 people.
Also on campus, Brad D. Smith Foundation Hall and Erickson Alumni Center can host 200 guests. Huntington Museum of Art has 10 exhibit spaces, an interactive education gallery, five studio workshops, and a 287-seat auditorium.
