MIAMI—The Miami Beach Convention Center (MBCC) has been awarded a prestigious 4 Green Keys rating by Green Key Global, recognizing the venue’s ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable practices in the meetings and events industry.

The certification, granted through the Green Key Meetings program, was achieved in partnership with the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB). The program is a respected international sustainability rating system for hotels, meeting venues, and convention centers.

Already a LEED Silver-certified facility, MBCC earned the Event Industry Council’s (EIC) Silver Certification for Sustainability and Social Impact in 2024. The latest recognition highlights the MBCC’s continued progress in efficiency, waste diversion, water conservation, and responsible sourcing.

“We view sustainability as a shared responsibility, one that enhances the guest experience, supports our local community and reduces our environmental impact,” says Freddie Peterson, MBCC general manager. “Sustainability is a foundational element of how we operate and an integral part of our culture. This distinction reflects the dedication of our entire team, including our sustainability champions, who take great pride in this achievement. It reflects our overall commitment to excellence in venue management, our partnership with the local hospitality industry and the GMCVB. Green Key verification validates our efforts and gives planners added confidence when selecting our venue.”

More than 50 hotels and facilities in the Greater Miami area are currently enrolled in Green Key Global’s Eco-Rating certification program through the partnership with GMCVB. MBCC’s addition to that roster signals a growing emphasis on environmental leadership within the region’s hospitality sector.
“We want to keep the momentum and motivation going for even more facilities and hotel properties to go through the sustainability verification process as it helps drive additional business,” says GMCVB president and CEO David Whitaker. “Seeing a convention and meetings facility landmark like the MBCC step up and demonstrate leadership by attaining this exceptional rating is the best endorsement you can have.”

The Green Key rating system evaluates facilities on a range of sustainability indicators, from operational practices to staff engagement and guest experience. A 4 Green Keys rating denotes significant leadership in environmental performance, positioning MBCC among top-tier sustainable venues in the industry.

“We congratulate the MBCC team on this well-deserved achievement,” says Ray Sabharwal, director of marketing at Green Key Global. “Their commitment to sustainable stewardship sets a powerful example for venues and meeting spaces across North America.”

MBCC is owned by the City of Miami Beach and managed by Oak View Group.
