MOBILE, Ala.—Oak View Group (OVG) has named hospitality veteran Matthew Bryant as general manager of the Mobile Convention Center as part of a series of leadership appointments across the company’s Mobile venues.

Bryant, who has more than 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry, will lead the convention center’s operations and development. His appointment comes as Oak View Group, a global leader in venue management and hospitality, expands its presence in Mobile with oversight of Saenger Theatre and the Mobile Arena, which is currently under development.

Bryant previously served as chair of the Traverse City Tourism board and treasurer of the Saugatuck Convention and Visitors Bureau in Michigan, where he helped strengthen local tourism and enhance destination branding. His past leadership roles also include positions with the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa, Embassy Suites Nashville SE, and the Sheraton Grand Rapids Airport.

“I’m honored to join the OVG team in Mobile and build on the Convention Center’s rich legacy,” Bryant says. “This is a city with incredible cultural depth, natural beauty, and genuine Southern hospitality, and I’m excited to collaborate with local partners to deliver exceptional guest experiences.”

In addition to Bryant, OVG named Alphonse Stalliard as director of events at the convention center. Stalliard will oversee client services, coordination, and event execution.

Saenger Theatre director Kelly Haven will continue leading operations at one of downtown Mobile’s key cultural landmarks. A general manager for the new Mobile Arena, expected to open in early 2027, will be announced later.

Additional leadership appointments across all three of OVG’s Mobile venues include Victor Knott as general manager of hospitality; Ashley Kirk as director of human resources; Davis Walker as director of partnerships and premium; and Hannah Pierce as director of marketing.

The new leadership team will help drive tourism, economic development, and year-round entertainment opportunities for residents and visitors in Mobile.

“Mobile’s deep cultural roots and thriving community make it an ideal hub for live events,” says Greg O’Dell, president of venue management for OVG. “With such an experienced support team leading the way, we’re entering the next phase of growth for our operations to firmly position the city as a must-visit destination for meetings, conventions, sports, and entertainment.”
