As the birthplace of the Civil Rights Movement, Alabama’s capital of Montgomery provides visitors with rich educational and cultural experiences of its historical legacy. “This is particularly true in the downtown convention district, which is surrounded by numerous sites influential in American and world history,” says Aquan Robinson, director of sales for Experience Montgomery. “This gives Montgomery a distinct appeal for meetings, allowing attendees to gather in the heart of American history while enjoying local Southern charm, exceptional dining, and vibrant downtown nightlife.”
Montgomery’s walkable downtown convention district has approximately 1,100 hotel rooms, with three new hotels opening soon, according to Robinson.
A new event option is Ravello Ristorante, built into three historic downtown buildings with a capacity of 400 guests. The space is just across from Montgomery Convention Center, which includes a 73,000-square-foot, column-free exhibit hall and nine meeting rooms. The AAA Four Diamond Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa at the Convention Center has 342 guest rooms, a 14,000-square-foot ballroom, and 18 meeting rooms. The 1,800-seat Montgomery Performing Arts Centre is part of the convention center complex. The adjacent Embassy Suites by Hilton Montgomery and Conference Center has 237 suites and 14,354 square feet of event space to host 1,020 guests theater style. DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Montgomery Downtown has 141 guest rooms and 20,084 square feet of function space to seat 300 banquet guests or to host 600 for a reception. Also downtown, Trilogy Hotel Montgomery, Marriott Autograph Collection is housed in three historic buildings with
a 2,100-square-foot ballroom.
Approximately 15 minutes from downtown, Montgomery Marriott Prattville Hotel & Conference Center at Capitol Hill is a 1,600-acre resort with 96 guest rooms and more than 20,000 square feet of event space to host a maximum of 1,011 guests theater style. The resort features 54 holes of championship golf, part of Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.
“Montgomery provides unforgettable experiences to both educate and entertain all ages while being very budget-friendly with many free attractions, making it a top choice for a family getaway,” Robinson says. The city’s Legacy Sites—three individual, interconnected spaces operated by Equal Justice Initiative—include Legacy Museum, National Memorial for Peace and Justice, and the new Freedom Monument Sculpture Park. Other historic sites include Rosa Parks Museum, Dexter Avenue Baptist Church, Freedom Riders Museum, and Civil Rights Memorial Center.
Montgomery’s Alabama Shakespeare Festival offers a full schedule of professional theater productions throughout the year and
a variety of indoor and outdoor event venues, including Festival Stage Theater, which can host 250 guests for receptions.
A new attraction in the city, Montgomery Whitewater is fun for all ages and great for group teambuilding, according to Robinson. “Montgomery Whitewater is Alabama’s premier outdoor destination and the perfect place to teambuild on the rapids or host a meeting. It has a 1,468-square-foot conference room with seating for 94 and an outdoor patio seating 150. It overlooks the competition channel, which recently hosted the 2024 Canoe Slalom and Kayak Cross U.S. Olympic Team Trials.”
