FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The highly anticipated $1 billion expansion project on the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center is underway.
The center will be bigger and better with 1.2 million square feet of space, including 350,000 square feet of contiguous exhibit space and a new 65,000-square-foot waterfront ballroom.
This project will feature advanced technology integrated throughout the property, original dining concepts, enhanced water-taxi access, and a brand new waterfront plaza with multiple group event spaces. It also includes an upscale 800-room headquarters hotel operated by Omni Hotels and Resorts, which will be interconnected with the Convention Center.
The Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center has been awarded Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) operations and maintenance gold certification from The Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI), an arm of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The venue is the first convention center in Florida to be LEED certified on any level and one of only three in the nation to achieve LEED Gold certification for an existing building.
Both the convention center expansion and new headquarters hotel are anticipated to be designated LEED Gold.
The Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center—is just a short drive from the airport, beaches, and downtown arts and entertainment district—sits facing the Intracoastal Waterway, offering panoramic water views through a glass wall. Its 600,000 square feet of exhibit, conference, and meeting space on three levels of expansive architecture and distinctive décor remind attendees of the destination’s water culture. The center’s exterior features a fountain plaza surrounding a 35-foot Kent Ullberg sailfish sculpture.
Completely state-of-the-art with cutting-edge technological services, the center features an executive teleconference suite and wireless internet access and hotspots throughout. A five-star food and beverage department presents inspired cuisine, and top-notch staff work with planners to execute all the details of even the most complex program with ease.
