AUSTIN, Texas – Like so many things in the Lone Star State, a historic boutique hotel in Austin is about to get a lot bigger.
As reported by connectcre.com, Rex LLC, owner of Hotel Ella, is planning to invest $100 million into the hotel to quadruple the number of the rooms from 47 to 213. About 172 below-grade parking spots will be installed as well. Rex LLC purchased the hotel last year.
In addition to increasing the number of rooms, the owners want to add a fine dining restaurant, a cigar and scotch bar, and a basement wine bar as well as potentially a rooftop garden.
Hotel officials have not provided a timeline for the expansion to begin, but Peter Rex of Rex LLC was quoted by the Austin Business-Journal as stating he wants it to begin “as soon as possible.”
The article states the expansion could see new hotel towers behind the historic Goodall Wooten House, a circa-1898 mansion which serves as the centerpiece of the hotel.
