AUSTIN, Texas – Thompson Austin and tommie Austin have announced the appointment of Marko Malicanin as hotel manager.
Malicanin will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Austin hotel duo, including supervising in-house staff, managing monthly and yearly budgets, and implementing marketing strategies.
“As someone who was born and raised in the hospitality sector, the level of service our guests deserve is something that is innate, and I have tried to build upon this knowledge at every property I’ve joined,” says Malicanin. “I’m thrilled to have the chance to showcase this skill set at these beautiful Austin properties and tell their two distinct stories to locals and travelers alike.”
Malicanin was most recently the director of food and beverage operations at Carmel Valley Ranch in California, overseeing the 500-acre property’s $18 million culinary operation. With a 13-year career at Hyatt, he has held various roles across its portfolio, including within Grand Hyatt Atlanta, Grand Hyatt Dubai, and Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa. Showcasing his service and commitment to the brand, Malicanin has been awarded the Living the Hyatt Purpose Award and Manager of the Year throughout his career. Malicanin earned his diploma in hospitality management and events management at the Swiss Hotel Management School, and his Bachelor of Business Administration from the Hotel Institute Montreux.
“By spending his entire career within the Hyatt family, Marko is well-versed in the luxury experience we strive to offer our guests, and I only expect he will enhance what we have already established here in Austin,” said Nate Hardesty, managing director of Thompson Austin and tommie Austin. “With many exciting announcements planned for 2024, we look forward to the innovative ideas he will bring and the supportive environment he will foster.”
Thompson Austin and tommie Austin originally opened in 2022. The two distinct hotels share a collection of curated amenities, including a 6,000-square-foot fitness center with a rentable sports simulator; a rooftop pool and bar; two culinary concepts from James Beard Award-winning chef Mashama Bailey; and a new poolside dining concept slated to open in March 2024.
