BRYAN, Texas—Chris Riggins, director of marketing and communications for Destination Bryan, has been named the 2026 recipient of the Texas Trailblazer Award by Destinations Texas, the statewide association representing destination marketing organizations across Texas.
Riggins received the award during the Destinations Texas Annual Conference, held Sept. 2-4 in Plano. The Texas Trailblazer Award recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution to the state’s tourism industry in a relatively short period, demonstrating innovation, strategic thinking, service, and leadership.
The award honors tourism professionals whose achievements have influenced their organizations and who contribute to the future of the industry. Previous recipients have included tourism leaders from Visit Plano, South Padre Island, Grapevine CVB, Seguin CVB, Amarillo CVC, and Visit The Woodlands.
“Chris has built Destination Bryan’s marketing and communications program from the ground up, and this recognition reflects the impact he’s had not just here locally, but across the state,” says John Friebele, executive director of Destination Bryan. “We’re proud to see his leadership recognized by his peers in the industry.”
Riggins began his tourism career as an intern with Experience Bryan-College Station while pursuing a degree in recreation, park, and tourism science at Texas A&M University. The program is now known as the Arch H. Aplin III ’80 Department of Hospitality, Hotel Management and Tourism. He later established Destination Bryan’s marketing and communications department, developing the organization’s original branding, building its website, launching social media, content, and public relations initiatives, and establishing its advertising strategy. He now leads a four-person marketing team.
Riggins’ work also extends into the broader Texas tourism industry. He previously served as co-chair of the Destinations Texas Young Professionals Committee, where he launched initiatives aimed at increasing engagement. He now serves as chair of the organization’s education committee. He has also served on the Board of the Texas Brazos Trail and is a recipient of the Destinations International 30 Under 30 award.
In addition to his organizational leadership, Riggins has participated as a panelist at destination marketing conferences and educational events throughout Texas and across the country. He is also recognized among industry colleagues as a mentor to other young tourism professionals.
