Downtown

The city’s cultural hub, Downtown is notable for its in-demand restaurants, high-end shopping, nightlife, world-famous museums, an illustrious residence at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, and several iconic hotels, some very near the White House.

Recently redesigned and renovated, the historic The St. Regis Washington, DC has 182 guest rooms and suites, including the 2,510-square-foot Presidential Suite, and 11,388 square feet of function space with eight event spaces, including Astor Ballroom, which accommodates up to 300 guests. The 459-room Washington Marriott at Metro Center has debuted a new look after completing multimillion-dollar renovations to guest rooms, public areas, and its fitness center. The hotel offers direct access to the Metro system and features 13,462 square feet of function space across 14 event rooms, with a capacity of 650 people for receptions. Completing a multimillion-dollar renovation this spring, the 559-room Capital Hilton has 31,235 total square feet of event space across 21 meeting rooms and can seat 1,350 theater style. Le Méridien Washington, D.C., The Madison (formerly The Madison) is now part of the Marriot portfolio, with 356 guest rooms and 18,066 square feet of total event space to accommodate 500 people. The hotel completed a $15 million renovation of its lobby, communal spaces, and guest rooms.

Coming this spring, Mint House will include 85 high-end studios and one- and two-bedroom apartment-style hotel units in a 68,000-square-foot converted office building. Mint House will have a variety of smaller indoor and outdoor event spaces to accommodate 60 guests.

JW Marriott Washington, DC, a Destination DC Sustainability District member, has 777 guest rooms and 40,776 square feet of function space across 25 event rooms. The hotel can host 1,520 guests for receptions, 1,100 for banquets, and 1,200 seated theater style. Willard InterContinental Washington DC, an IHG Hotel, a premiere D.C. meeting space for 200 years and a Destination DC Sustainability District member, has 335 guest rooms and more than 22,000 square feet of event space across 18 function spaces. Another historic property just steps from the White House, Hotel Washington has 326 guest rooms and more than 12,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor function space, including a ballroom seating 700 guests. The hotel’s Sky Room has space to host 200 guests for receptions and promises outstanding views.

Once the city’s Old Post Office, Waldorf Astoria Washington DC has 263 guest rooms and 38,000 square feet of meeting and event space, including the 13,200-square-foot Presidential Ballroom. The ballroom accommodates 1,300 guests for receptions and has a separate entrance for direct street access.

Conrad Washington DC has 360 guest rooms and more than 32,000 square feet of function space, including several boardrooms and a rooftop venue. The Westin Washington, D.C. City Center has 410 guest rooms and 16,961 square feet of function space with 18 meeting rooms and 10 breakout rooms.

Additional event hotels include Courtyard Washington Downtown/Convention Center, with 10,266 square feet of meeting space to accommodate 350 guests, shared with the Residence Inn; Eaton DC, a boutique hotel and co-working space that is part of the Destination DC Sustainability District, with 209 guest rooms and more than 14,000 square feet of event space; Embassy Suites by Hilton Washington D.C. Convention Center, also a Destination DC Sustainability District member, with 384 guest rooms and 6,168 square feet of function space; and the historic Hamilton Hotel, with 326 guest rooms and more than 18,000 square feet of newly renovated event space.

Part of Destination DC’s Connected Campus, the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center has 65,000 square feet of meeting and exhibit space with 22 flexible event spaces, including a 595-seat amphitheater, an atrium ballroom for up to 1,000 guests, and a domed rotunda with space to seat 220 people theater style or host 250
for receptions.

City officials have unveiled the Downtown Action Plan, a $400 million, five-year plan to bring new apartments, public-safety enhancements, additional space for pedestrians, new green spaces, and cultural hubs. Plans are also underway to redevelop Pennsylvania Avenue as a “livelier urban corridor” by 2027.
