MACON, Ga.—Macon-Bibb County has unveiled new renderings for its planned Macon Arena, a multipurpose venue designed to expand the destination’s capacity for conventions, meetings, sporting events, and entertainment.

Planned for the East Bank of the Ocmulgee River at 305 Coliseum Drive, the approximately 250,000-square-foot arena campus is expected to open in 2028. The project will feature a new arena, a 30,000-square-foot adjacent Flex Hall, premium hospitality spaces, structured parking, and upgraded fan technology.

According to Visit Macon, the new venue will enhance the destination’s ability to attract regional and national conventions, trade shows, concerts, sporting events, family entertainment, and other large-scale gatherings. The adjacent Flex Hall is designed to provide additional event space for breakout sessions, vendor exhibits, warm-up areas, community programming, and simultaneous events.

“This project gives Macon another important tool as we continue to compete for conventions, meetings, events, sports tournaments, and entertainment opportunities,” says Gary Wheat, president and CEO of Visit Macon. “A modern arena campus with flexible event space helps us tell a stronger story to planners who are looking for destinations that can meet a wide variety of needs. It is an investment not only in tourism, but in the long-term economic activity and quality of life for Macon+Bibb County.”

According to current designs, the project will offer seating for up to approximately 10,200 guests in the arena, depending on event configuration. When combined with the Flex Hall, the campus is expected to accommodate approximately 12,300 people. Plans also include hospitality suites, loge boxes, and both structured and surface parking.

Visit Macon officials believe the new arena will strengthen Macon’s competitive position as a meetings and events destination, leveraging its central location at the intersection of Interstate 75 and Interstate 16.
