PADUCAH, Ky. – Installed during the COVID-19 pandemic, the new indoor sports courts at the Paducah-McCracken County Convention & Expo Center are open and hosting sporting events.
The 40,000-square-foot multi-purpose sports court can be designed to accommodate 16 volleyball courts or four basketball courts and has ample space for athletes and their families to socially distance. The facility is also equipped with a floor covering which will allow non-sporting events to be held.
Located at the confluence of the Ohio and Tennessee Rivers in historic downtown and adjacent to the Lower Town Arts District, The center boasts 110,000 square feet of convention and exhibition space. It is a popular destination for a variety of arts and cultural events, most notably, the American Quilters Society’s Biannual Quilt Week.
The center has enacted safety protocols such as social distancing and masks, reduced capacity, and contactless registration.
The first weekend of volleyball at the indoor sports court was held in mid-September and left local officials and organizers encouraged about the facility’s potential.
