National Harbor, a multimillion-dollar urban resort destination on the banks of the Potomac River, has eight hotels, 160 stores, 40 restaurants, and numerous attractions. The iconic Capital Wheel, a 180-foot observation wheel, offers breathtaking views of Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
National Harbor’s Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center recently renovated its 1,996 guest rooms and 110 suites, and also debuted three “reimagined” new dining experiences. The resort boasts 546,889 square feet of event space, including 94 event rooms; its largest space, the 178,787-square-foot Prince George’s Exhibit Hall, can accommodate up to 10,000 people.
MGM National Harbor has 308 guest rooms, 72 suites, and 50,000 square feet of meeting space. The resort’s largest space, a 16,137-square-foot ballroom, can host up to 1,600 people. Other components include a 3,000-seat theater, celebrity and signature restaurants, and outdoor terraces.
Hotel updates in Prince George’s County include AC Hotel National Harbor Washington D.C. Area, which recently renovated its lobby and will renovate all guest rooms’ bathrooms later this year. The hotel offers venue space for events of up to 120 people. Westin Washington National Harbor recently installed new beds in its 195 guest rooms. The hotel has 2,212 square feet of event space, with a capacity of 150 people.
In College Park, the Hotel at the University of Maryland has 297 guest rooms, 29 suites, and 43,000 square feet of flexible space across 28 rooms. The AAA Four Diamond hotel accommodates 1,568 for receptions and 960 for seated banquets in its largest space. The 206-room College Park Marriott Hotel & Conference Center has 40,854 square feet of event space, with a capacity of 975 people. In Greenbelt, the 287-room Crowne Plaza College Park – Washington DC, an IGH Hotel has 11,075 square feet of meeting space across 12 meeting rooms. Its largest space can accommodate up to 300 people.
Beyond traditional meeting spaces, Prince George’s County offers numerous unique and cutting-edge venues for groups of all sizes, including elegant estates and historic mansions like Riversdale House Museum and Montpelier Historic Site. The new Prince George’s Community College Culinary Arts Center offers event space and various teambuilding options. For high-flying adventure approximately 180 feet above the Potomac, creative planners might consider a breakout session in one of Capital Wheel’s 42 climate-controlled gondolas. Flight Deck, an open-air bar and lounge at the base of the attraction, is available for private events of up to 145 people. More options abound in Prince George’s County, including Topgolf, Go Kart tracks, paintball, horseback riding, hiking, and biking.
The 10,000-seat Prince George’s Stadium/Chesapeake Baysox Ballpark will begin a $50 million upgrade this year. The upgrade will include a new indoor multipurpose facility for training and non-baseball events. Currently, the venue accommodates private events of up to 2,500 people.
