ATLANTA, Ga. – Georgia World Congress Center Authority (GWCCA) has announced Sherrie Spinks, general manager of Savannah Convention Center (SCC), will retire at the end of August.

Stephen Hall, SCC’s current assistant general manager and director of finance, will serve as interim general manager effective Sept. 1.

A 37-year convention and events industry veteran, Spinks has spent the past 26 years with GWCCA where she served as chief financial officer from 1997 to 2015 managing the Authority’s strategic financial operations as well as contributing to several citywide bid events, including Super Bowls, NCAA Final Fours, and SEC Championships. Spinks also served on the development team for Mercedes-Benz Stadium. During her tenure as general manager, the property was awarded LEED-Gold certification and set numerous financial and attendee records, according to a news release.

“Sherrie’s contributions to the management and operations of SCC have been tremendous over the past seven-plus years. From navigating the pandemic to overseeing the convention center’s recent expansion project, Sherrie has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to delivering an enhanced guest experience,” says Frank Poe, executive director of GWCCA. “We thank her for her years of service and wish her the best in her retirement.”

GWCCA, in partnership with the Savannah-Georgia Convention Center Authority, has initiated a national search for Spinks’ successor.
