Mountain Lakes & New River-Greenbrier Valley
The nine-county region known as southern West Virginia is home to New River
Gorge National Park and Preserve, America’s newest national park, which offers world-class whitewater rafting, rock climbing, hiking, and mountain biking. Other unique attractions in the region include Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine, which takes visitors through a former coal mine and explores the cultural history of mining in West Virginia, and Tamarack Marketplace, a shopping and dining experience in Beckley that showcases and sells creations by artists and artisans from across the state. Tamarack Marketplace Conference & Event Center has multiple indoor and outdoor spaces for up to 500 guests.
Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center is the largest event facility in the region, with a 15,000-square-foot arena and seven additional meeting rooms. Additional offsite venues include the State Fair Event Center in Lewisburg, with exhibit space to accommodate 110 (10 x 10) booths or seat 240 for dinners; Chuck Mathena Center for the Performing Arts in Princeton, with a 1,000-seat theater, a 4,141-square-foot grand hall, and a 150-person-capacity rotunda; and McCreery Conference and Event Center in Hinton, which accommodates up to 120 dinner guests.
The region offers approximately 2,694 guest rooms. The Resort at Glade Springs has 200 guest rooms and villas and 15,000 square feet of meeting space for up to 450 guests. Winterplace Ski Resort offers a variety of independently owned condos and cabins and features the 12,000-square-foot Resort Center and the 10,000-square-foot Mountain House, with a large outdoor deck and room to host 300 guests. Lookout Post at Adventures on the Gorge has 123 cabins, additional lodging options, and 12 event spaces with a meeting capacity of 200.
