ATL Airport District

The ATL Airport District comprises Fairburn, Hapeville, South Fulton, and Union City, all positioned near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and approximately 15 minutes from downtown Atlanta.

“Eighty percent of our country’s population is located within a two-hour flight or less of the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport,” says Mercedes Miller, president of the ATL Airport District. More than 3,000 hotel rooms give planners airport convenience at rates the district reports are approximately 30% below those in the city center.

The Georgia International Convention Center (GICC) is the district’s largest event venue, with 300,000 square feet of space and more than 7,000 hotel rooms in the vicinity. Its inventory includes 150,000 square feet of exhibit space, a 40,000-square-foot ballroom divisible into eight salons, and more than 42,000 square feet of pre-function space surrounding the ballroom.

The airport’s SkyTrain makes the trip from the terminal to GICC in approximately two minutes, simplifying arrivals for fly-in meetings. The GICC campus also offers technology, catering, and event-logistics support, while the nearby Gateway Center Arena provides another 100,000 square feet of flexible space.

Hotel options include the 510-room Hilton Atlanta Airport, offering 34,002 square feet with a capacity of 800 people; 214-room Kimpton Overland Atlanta Airport, with 12,801 square feet and a capacity of 375; and 178-room Embassy Suites by Hilton Atlanta Airport North, with 4,521 square feet and a capacity of 474. For planners comparing the district’s expanded footprint, the CVB has launched a 360-degree virtual tour covering local points of interest and potential itinerary stops.

Groups can move beyond the ballroom at the Porsche Experience Center, the renovated Delta Flight Museum, Swing ATL, and Wolf Creek Golf Course. Delta Flight Museum features historic aircraft and a Boeing 737 simulator; its hangar setting can also host private events. The Rooftop at the Overland, overlooking both the Porsche track and airport runways, is ideal for receptions. Downtown Hapeville adds walkable restaurants, public art, Hapeville Depot Museum, and Atlanta Printmakers Studio.

Fairburn and South Fulton broaden the options further with the Georgia Renaissance Festival, Duncan Park, Wolf Creek Amphitheater, Boat Rock Preserve, and South Fulton Tennis Center. Newer restaurants range from Puerto Rican cuisine at Weepa to plant-based comfort food at Unbelievegan.

“The ATL Airport District team is committed to creating the most accessible, customer-focused convention, meeting, and visitor destination in the United States,” Miller adds.
