Clarksburg is where Appalachian authenticity meets modern event infrastructure, according to Aimeé Comer, executive director of the Clarksburg Visitors Bureau. “We sit within a two-hour drive of Pittsburgh and Charleston, making us one of the most accessible mid-sized event destinations in the Mountain State,” she says. “It’s not just the logistics that bring planners back. Clarksburg has one of the best-preserved historic downtowns in West Virginia, a nationally recognized Italian American culinary heritage, and a tight-knit hospitality community that treats every group like a homecoming.”
The 112-room Hilton Garden Inn Clarksburg has a ballroom that accommodates 120 guests, while Days Inn & Suites by Wyndham Bridgeport-Clarksburg offers 4,500 square feet of function space and is currently undergoing a full renovation.
Venues include The Morris, with what Comer calls a “vintage industrial chic setting,” seating 350 for dinners and offering a 10,000-square-foot open event space, and the historic Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center, with 1,000 seats, a ballroom, and a 3,000-square-foot multipurpose room. The Clarksburg Amphitheater seats 2,000 for concerts and events. In nearby Bridgeport, the Bridgeport Conference Center at Charles Pointe has a 4,500-square-foot ballroom, conference suites, a 1,500-square-foot lobby for pre- and post-function gathering, and courtyard and patio space for receptions.
Known for its authentic Italian American heritage, thanks to immigrants who came to work the coal mines in the 19th century, Clarksburg is home to some famous eateries, according to Comer. “Tomaro’s Bakery has been baking and selling the famous West Virginia pepperoni roll since 1917; Julio’s Café is a beloved Italian restaurant with everything made from scratch, from pasta fagioli to veal parmigiana; and Minard’s Spaghetti Inn is the birthplace of Italian cuisine in north-central West Virginia.”
Visitors will enjoy exploring West Virginia’s official food on the Pepperoni Roll Trail, with stops at the home of the original roll and other restaurants serving award-winning variations throughout the Clarksburg and Marion County areas.
Approximately one hour south of Clarksburg, Stonewall Resort is surrounded by 1,900 acres of state parkland. It features a rustic yet elegant Adirondack-style lodge with 200 guest rooms and suites, including two oversized presidential suites, plus two- to four-bedroom cottages and lake houses.
