MIAMI, Fla. – The Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) is welcoming back a familiar face in David Whitaker as its new president and CEO.
Whitaker is returning the organization he previously served as executive vice president and chief marketing officer from 1990 to 2007 before heading to Toronto, Ontario to take on the post of present and CEO of Destination Toronto.
For the past five years, Whitaker has served in the same position for Choose Chicago.
“David brings back to us a rare and powerful combination—an immense wealth of experience and knowledge of our community, coupled with a significant world of experiences gained from promoting two of North America’s most diverse and global brands in Chicago and Toronto,” said Bruce Orosz, chairman of the GMCVB.
Whitaker will take over his new position halfway through August. Current president and CEO Bill Talbert will remain with the organization until October 2022 to assist with the transition.
“I am honored, thrilled and fortunate to have the opportunity to return home,” said Whitaker. “First of all, I have the privilege of following in the footsteps of two extraordinary mentors and leaders—Merrett Stierheim and Bill Talbert. Second, I will be joining an incredible team with a long history and decades of promotion from Greater Miami and Miami Beach as one of the most characteristic and desired brands in the world.”
