AUSTIN, Tex. — Austin will be the first U.S. site for a new luxury hotel concept that has its flagship property in Bermuda.
The Loren Hotel Group has broken ground on a $130-million mixed-use project on prime Lady Bird Lake waterfront.
The hotel will have a rooftop restaurant and event facilities with a bar and lounge that open to an outdoor seating area with 180-degree views of Austin’s skyline. Additionally, The Loren at Lady Bird Lake will have a luxury spa, gym, swimming pool and “retail offerings with a health and wellness theme.”
Lady Bird Lake is a river-like reservoir on the Colorado River, created by the City of Austin in 1960 as a cooling pond for a new power plant. The lake is currently used for recreation and flood control.
“We’re excited to continue the success of The Loren Hotel brand by bringing our next venture to Austin, one of America’s most exciting and fastest-growing cities – where we believe the luxury traveler is under-served,” Stephen King, the group’s founder, said.
“As in Bermuda, where we’ve attracted a discerning international travel market, we expect to deliver the same focus on elevated service, appreciation for quality design and art and an impeccable location to appeal to international travelers and serve as a social hub for Austinites.”
The group’s flagship property is The Loren at Pink Beach in Bermuda, which opened in 2017.
The Loren at Lady Bird Lake’s grand opening is scheduled for early 2022. The site once housed a Taco Cabana restaurant and a Pollo Tropical eatery.
The Loren Hotel Group said it will be working with the city to “substantially upgrade” the parkland on the lake’s south shore, and plans to provide a “significant contribution” of land for affordable housing in the South Lamar area.
The Loren company said it plans to expand the Loren brand across the U.S. and beyond.
