FORT WORTH, Texas  – A major expansion of Omni Fort Worth Hotel is back on track after being delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As reported by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the $217 million project will see the addition of 400 rooms to the hotel. The City of Fort Worth is expected to contribute $53 million in incentives to the project, which will also see a “refresh” to the existing hotel facilities. After the expansion, the hotel would have more than 1,000 rooms.

The expansion was originally planned to begin in March 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic began.

Along with the guest room increase, hotel officials are planning to add 50,000 square feet of meeting space in the new tower and build a 15,000-square-foot restaurant as well.

The Star-Telegram article states the city’s incentives will improve the streetscape surrounding the hotel. However, these do come with some commitments from Omni Hotels & Resorts.

“The luxury hotel chain must spend a minimum of $202.3 million on the expansion with 15 percent of hard and soft costs to minority and women-owned contractors, according to the city. Completion is required by the end of 2026,” the article states.

The hotel has also agreed to transform a parking lot across from the hotel into a $6 million, 200-space parking garage. The garage will be owned by the City of Fort Worth, but the hotel will lease it, and be responsible for maintaining and operating the structure with an option to buy it after 10 years.

As reported in the Star-Telegram article, another 1,000-room hotel is planned for the expansion of the Fort Worth Convention Center. The $67 million first phase is expected to begin by the end of this year.
