Planners looking for something different will find it in St. Landry Parish, a heritage destination north of Lafayette, where professional business merges with south Louisiana soul. The parish seat of Opelousas, known as the “Zydeco Capital of the World,” sets a vibrant tone for any meeting.

Evangeline Downs Racetrack & Casino complex offers more than 19,000 square feet of flexible event space across nine meeting and breakout rooms. Its largest space, at 9,520 square feet, can accommodate 600 guests for seated banquets or up to 1,200 seated theater style. Planners can also utilize trackside private club suites or the 816-square-foot Parish Room located in the connected 117-room Evangeline Downs Hotel, Ascend Hotel Collection. The Parlor, a downtown Opelousas landmark built circa 1931, accommodates up to 49 people. Other unique venue options include the rustically elegant La Bellevue Petite Chateau and Sunset’s historic BeauBassin Farm & Gardens.
The new Hotel Klaus, which occupies a circa-1870 general store, brings nine high-end luxury boutique accommodations to the tiny historic town of Washington—featuring more than 700 antique, Civil War, and mid-century vendors within a 20-mile radius. The setting is ideal for executive retreats and antique hunters. Other unique lodging options include the retro motel Train Wreck Inn, in Grand Coteau.
