ATHENS, Ga. – Paul Cramer, president/CEO of The Classic Center, has been selected by Georgia Trend Magazine as one of the “most influential leaders” in the state.

The magazine selects 500 such “leaders” in the state each year to publish in a special magazine edition, Georgia 500. According to a news release, the leaders “all have a significant focus on working together on economic development and Southern hospitality, making Georgia a powerhouse for economic expansion.” The selection process includes nominations, extensive research, and an interview process.

“I am truly honored to be recognized …” Cramer says, “To work alongside the leaders of our community and to be selected among the top leaders in this state is remarkable. I look forward to continuing economic growth in Athens and within the hospitality industry.”

The release states Cramer has championed workforce development efforts in the hospitality industry, with the creation of programs such as Bread for Life and the Hospitality Careers Academy, as well as his influence in the establishment of hospitality degree programs at many local continuing education establishments, including the Athens Community Career Academy, Athens Technical College, Piedmont University, and the University of Georgia.

Cramer serves on the Athens Community Career Academy board and the foundation board of the International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM). In addition, he developed and oversees The Classic Center Cultural Foundation, which provides hospitality education, performing arts, and visual arts scholarships to the local community.

Cramer has led The Classic Center for nearly 28 years. He began his career in Rochester, N.Y., working his way up from a banquet and concessions manager in 1986 to an assistant executive director by 1994.
