New Thompson Washington D.C. Hotel Adds Luxury to Riverfront

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A new luxury hotel in the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood is set to open early in 2020. The 225-room Thompson Washington D.C. features 7,000 square feet of meeting and event space and a rooftop bar with views of the Anacostia River and Nationals Park.

Opening in the capitol’s Navy Yard district, the Thompson hotel includes a Roman-style trattoria from restaurateur Danny Meyer called Maialino Mare. Catering for the meeting and event spaces will be provided by Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group, which will also oversee all food and beverage in the hotel.

The hotel has spaces for intimate or larger, extravagant events and each meeting space is decorated with original artwork. It also has 17 suites, including two “Thompson Suites” that have their own private outdoor terraces.

The Thompson property was built by Geolo Capital of San Francisco and JW Capital Partners of Boston. The firms are said to have a deal to sell the hotel to German-based Union Investment once it is operational. For more info visit
