Austin is building a $1.6 billion convention destination that reshapes the future of meetings and events. Currently closed for redevelopment until spring 2029, Austin Convention Center will reopen with expanded space, new energy, and stronger capabilities designed to elevate every gathering. Meeting planners can secure dates now and position their events at the forefront of Austin’s next convention era.

A zero-carbon leader that redefines modern venues

The transformed Austin Convention Center welcomes attendees to a modern, inviting, and fully sustainable environment. The five-story facility spans six walkable city blocks and is designed to achieve ILFI Zero-Carbon certification. Smart, eco-focused design features align with Austin’s Climate Equity Plan and create a seamless, enjoyable guest experience.

This district links directly to Waterloo Greenway and Waller Creek, giving attendees easy access to shaded paths, outdoor seating, and fresh air between sessions. Every element supports comfort, efficiency, and sustainability.

Flexible, inspiring spaces spark big ideas

When the convention center opens ahead of the 2029 Spring Festivals, it will offer 620,000 square feet of rentable space, including 75,000 square feet outdoors for bold activations. Expansive exhibit halls, next-generation meeting rooms, a dramatic ballroom, and vibrant pre-function spaces set the stage for standout experiences. A record investment of $17.7 million in public art adds immersive installations and creative storytelling throughout the building.

A historic landmark returns

As part of the redevelopment, the Trask House returns to its original site. Built in 1855, it stands as one of downtown Austin’s few surviving 19th-century homes. It will host events, cultural programs, and community activities.

A strategic downtown location designed for growth

The convention center sits between Lady Bird Lake and historic Sixth Street. More than 15,000 hotel rooms within a one-mile radius support it. Planners gain walkability, energy, and momentum for conventions of every size.

Bookings for 2029 and beyond are open. Reserve early to secure prime dates and give your attendees the first look at Austin’s next chapter.
