LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Galt House, Louisville’s landmark waterfront hotel with a history that extends back to the early 1800s, has completed its historic $80 million renovation.

Over the course of two years, this property-wide transformation upgraded all of the 1,239 guestrooms, brought forth five brand-new dining and bar concepts, and reimagined meeting spaces. In total, more than 1.5 million square feet of space have been reimagined at The Galt House.

The East Tower recently redesigned 600 guestrooms and suites to include premium in-room amenities such as Keurig coffee machines, 49-inch TVs, wet bars and refrigerators, custom Bowles mattresses, Kohler bathroom fixtures, and more. Hallways and public spaces are more spacious, with additional stations to conveniently check in and out.

The Veranda, a lobby lounge adjacent to the entrance, stands as a convenient gathering point for guests to meet. The transformed Conservatory (7,925 square feet) offers an open, malleable layout overlooking the Ohio River to accommodate up to 729 guests and expansive entertainment options including a nine-screen media wall. Featuring a modern, colorful design and the longest bar in Louisville (43 ft, 3 in.), the Conservatory is perched on the third floor of the hotel, boasting magnificent waterfront views. Also within this light-filled oasis is the renovated Thelma’s, which touts made-to-order breakfast items, coffee and specialty drinks, sandwiches, salads, and more.

Completed in March 2020, the West Tower’s significant renovation includes 639 guestrooms, a refreshed lobby, new and refreshed standalone restaurant concepts, Walker’s Exchange (8,686 square feet) and Jockey Silks Bourbon Bar (2,000 square feet), and 30,000 square feet of revamped meeting spaces. Reimagined rooms reflect the same modern transformation as the East Tower guestrooms, with king and double queen layouts offering sweeping views of the Ohio River or downtown Louisville.

“The culmination of The Galt House’s historic two-year renovation is a momentous occasion,” said Scott Shoenberger, President and CEO of the Al J. Schneider Company. “Every touchpoint has been thoughtfully approached to provide our discerning guests with a more modern look at Southern hospitality. Whether it’s relaxing in one of our plush guestrooms or simply gathering at Swizzle or Walker’s Exchange, our hotel places guests in the heart of Louisville and we’re incredibly excited to invite those from near and far to experience it.”

The Galt House Hotel is located in downtown Louisville, with quick accessibility to the city’s attractions including Whiskey Row, the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory, Muhammad Ali Center, Urban Bourbon Trail, Fourth Street Live, and more. This historic property is also positioned near the country’s biggest events, including Thunder Over Louisville, America’s largest firework show. It is the official hotel partner of The Kentucky Derby.
