TEXAS CITY, Texas – Sports Illustrated is planning to launch a new resort south of Houston.
As reported by Houston website Chron.com, the resort will be located near the Lago Mar lagoon in Texas City, Texas. The 12-acre lagoon holds 24 million gallons of water.
According to the article, the resort is still in the design phase and will include a nine-story, 200-room building. It will also include a Stadium Sports Grill and Sports Illustrated Beach Club with beachside cabanas, resort services, and a swim-up island bar.
Lagoon Development will be involved with the project. The company’s founder and CEO told Chron.com that there will be events related to the iconic sports magazine, and Sports Illustrated Athlete of the Year awards will be offered to local students.
“The location in Texas City is an exciting venture for us,” says Christopher Schroeder, CEO of Sports Hospitality Ventures, LLC., the hotel and resort arm of the Sports Illustrated brand. “Texas sports, especially Houston sports, are integral to this state, and we are pleased to bring this resort to such a dedicated fan base.”
The article states a groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 2024 Q3, and a similar resort is planned for Orlando, Fla.
