JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga.  — Hotel operator, owner, and developer New Castle Hotels & Resorts has appointed Sylvia Wardzala as the general manager of the company’s newly acquired Holiday Inn Resort Jekyll Island in Jekyll Island, Ga.

“We are excited to welcome Sylvia to New Castle Hotels & Resorts,” said Guido Kerpel, COO of New Castle Hotels & Resorts “Over the past 20 years in her award-winning career, Sylvia has demonstrated her dedication to building loyalty, strong teams, and a service-focused culture.”

Wardzala is responsible for the overall management and operations at the oceanfront resort, and she is also overseeing a renovation that will bring a fresh and updated look and feel to the hotel. The renovation includes the refurbishing of all guest rooms, a reimagined lobby, refreshed balconies, new event space with ocean views, a food and beverage makeover at the poolside tiki bar, expanded outdoor leisure/recreation areas, and landscaping improvements. Following the renovation, the resort will have 1,200 square feet of function space with an expansive, ocean view patio designed for meetings, social events, and weddings.

Before joining New Castle Hotels & Resorts, Wardzala served as the complex general manager for Crestline Hotels & Resorts, overseeing three hotels in Jacksonville, Fla., for the past five and a half years. During that time, she earned the honor of being named General Manager of the Year by the company. During her career, she also served as general manager for multiple other brand hotels in Florida and Louisiana.

Wardzala, a native of Poland who moved to the U.S. when she was 18, began her career in the hospitality industry with Marriott in 2012.

“Holiday Inn Resort Jekyll Island is a naturally beautiful property with a wonderful staff,” said Wardzala. “We want all of our guests to take in the picturesque setting of the island and resort when visiting and enjoy complete rest and relaxation.”

New Castle Hotels & Resorts acquired the 158-room Holiday Inn Resort Jekyll Island in early 2022. The property is located on more than seven acres of beachfront on one of Georgia’s southernmost islands. The company will invest an additional $3.6 million in resort improvements.
