NEW ORLEANS, La.  – With Mother’s Day on the horizon, many moms will be getting the gift of breakfast in bed.

Jason Schneider, executive chef at The Roosevelt New Orleans, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel, has a few suggestions to up your breakfast game, courtesy of a recent interview with Hilton.

He said it only takes a little bit of pre-planning or an unexpected ingredient to make a Mother’s Day breakfast even more special. Personalize the meal to suit Mom’s taste, and use luxurious ingredients, such as specialty mushrooms or king crab.

Breakfast sandwiches serve as a tasty but easy option, he added.

“One of my favorites is a baguette with smoked salmon and some cream cheese that’s been mixed with green onions, capers, and dill,” said Schneider, who brings two decades of experience to the job. “A breakfast BLT is another universally appreciated favorite, and it’s simple to prepare.” Make it upscale with high-quality bacon, artisanal bread, and a vine-ripened tomato. Serve it open with bacon and a fried egg on one side and lettuce and tomato on the other. Top it off with fresh-cracked pepper.

Schneider also offered advice on how to complete the breakfast with thoughtful decor.

“I would encourage them to find some wild or garden flowers to pick, if available—that always impresses Mom. Creating a tray liner with some of the children’s custom artwork could be fun. The custom card or note may be obvious, but don’t overlook it,” he said.
